Consistent Brand Colors on Instagram: DIY Hack

Maintaining a consistent brand on non-design platforms can be tricky. Thankfully, there are workarounds on apps like Instagram that make it easier to keep things like your colors and logos easily accessible.

Introducing: the Sticky Color Palette Hack

This is a trick that I use all the time to keep my Instagram stories and reels on-brand. Once you set it up, it makes editing text, pen, and link colors a breeze.

What you’ll need:

Part 1: Importing Your Color Palette

Step 1: Open up Instagram and navigate to the Stories tab.

Step 2: Take a photo or upload any photo.

Step 3: Swipe up from the bottom of your screen to access the tools menu.

Step 4: Select “Cutouts” and select your color palette image.

Step 5: Drag your finger around the screen until your full color palette is selected (outlined in the glowing white line).

Step 6: Click “Use sticker.”

Your sticker will now save to an evergreen sticker panel in your tools menu. It usually takes about 60-90 seconds to populate.

Part 2: How to Use the Sticky Color Palette

Step 1: Open your Stories tab (you can do this on the image you’ve already populated for part 1) or start a new Reel.

Step 2: Click the sticker icon (sticker with smiley face) or swipe up to access your tool menu.

Step 3: Select your Sticky Color Palette from your sticker gallery.

Step 4: Type your copy, select the drawing pen, or add a link.

Step 5: For editing the color of text or changing the pen color: Select the eye dropper tool in the bottom left corner of the color menu.

For editing the color of a link: Press and hold the link, and slide finger over to the eye dropper.

Step 6: Hover over your Sticky Color Palette to select your brand colors.

Step 7: When finished with color dropping, select and drag the color palette down to the trash can to delete.

Bonus Hack: Solid Brand Color Backgrounds (Story and Post Reposts)

Step 1: Repost a Story (someone tagged you in) or a post from your feed.

Step 2: Select the drawing tool.*

*If you want a slightly transparent color drop (example: you have a background image with text over it and want a transparent color over it), select the highlighter instead of the normal pen.

Step 3: Access your Sticky Color Palette using instructions from Part 2.

Step 4: Color drop using the eye dropper tool in the lower left corner.

Step 5: Press and hold the background behind the reposted content.

That’s it! Now you can rinse and repeat as many times as you need. Using the same brand colors will help build recognition of your business as users swipe through their feed quickly.

I hope this hack was helpful! Check back regularly for more tips on building brand consistency.
